Krupówki

See

Krupówki is one of those places in Zakopane that you have to visit. This pedestrian precinct, closed to motorised traffic, runs through the centre of the town and is 1,100 metres long. Most of the buildings along Krupówki are occupied by numerous restaurants and highlander inns and souvenir shops, and there is also a stop for horse-drawn carriages.

Among the well-known and worth seeing buildings on Krupówki are: the Kasprowy Wierch Hotel, the neo-Romanesque Holy Family parish church, the historic building of the Vocational School Complex and the Tatra Museum located next to it.

The present shape of Krupówki was formed during the great fire, which destroyed the wooden buildings in the centre of Krupówki on 21 January 1899. In the 1990s, Krupówki Street was paved with new cobblestones, new benches and characteristic leaning lanterns. They give the street a very specific atmosphere, especially after dark.
Until recently, the biggest problem of Krupówki was the pedestrian crossing over Kościeliska Street, linking the promenade with the market on the square below Gubałówka. Currently, a subway has been created in this place.
